That's a nice car. But way over priced.

Who knows...

I'm amazed at what super beetle convertables.... go for....

But then again, I'm amazed that people will pay 2-3x as much for a beaten 1600 dp when there's a dyno tested single sitting next to it.

Guess if you always wanted an aircooled station wagon and had priced out retrofit parts and service -- may be a good deal.

Show winner? What shows? I peruse evry rag every month I can...looking for 411/412's in the type 3 categorys. ever seen that one.

Ihave every scrap of paper ever generated by VW for my car...from teh end of the assembly line print-out, tags from 4 countrys, the original insurance documents, all delivery and shipping documents, the factory emissions manual, maintenance manual, service book, general all four models glove box book, all in the leatherette folder, the original tool kit, jack, hubcap pullers...and ...as noted prevoiusly...a piece of hitlers skull and several nude photos of Eva Braun cavorting with the family German shepards  . Its still not worth $8000....yet. Maybe 5 years.

What these yahoos also do not know....or realize...is that car has 52K AND 30 years on it...and its not drivable as a daily driver. I have owned several 412's just like that. A 1000 mile road trip would put 30 year old ball joints, strut cartridges, radius do-nuts, centering rings, control arm bushings and idler bushings...off the road...period. This type of suspension is not like the bug. The bug suspension has so few rubber parts except seals. As long as a bug doesn't rust from teh outside and has grease on the needle bearings....you can pull one out of the junkyard and tool on down the road.
I'm not interested in a museum piece. I want to drive mine dependably. I can buy one thats nice except for faded paint and trashed seats and a few nicks...for about $1k....dump $5K into it and walk away with a ride finer than that one. Ray

I've seen "Show winners" before :) When there's no competition, I've seen nearly folded TIV's be show winners :)

That's a little pricey, like about 4k pricey ....

Ray, you're a maniac.

If I was going to spend 8 grand on any VW, I'm sorry to say, it would not be a 412 wagon. Maybe a split, or a 23 window.

My 412 is a show winner too. I've got the forged documents to prove it. I'll sell it right now for $7,000.

I also forgot to mention....The original VW "tourist" fold out map book for those who bought their cars in Germany, picked them up there and drove for a while. It has all of the VW dealers in all of europe marked...with a little VW symbol. Not to mention....a big ugly red and black line ...denoting the Berlin wall. Not too many dealers on the other side...but a few ...I think. Ray
