Hey uberly-duberly....thanks for the link! Where to start with this one....hmmmm? Well first....that nasty color. Second...the god-awful mirrors and rilling holes in the fenders. Next....the cloth seat covering job. Original seats? Hardly! A 2.0 liter 85hp engine...? The wheels are kinda cool. New Brakes? How far along. This addresses nothing else...like the suspension needs all cars of this age need. For $2200?.....welll...iwould like to know whats hiding under that Earl Scheib paint before I pay that much. But...it is nice. Ray

Yes, I hate how that color looks on a 412. What were they thinking? They need to deduct from the price because of it. I can't imagine why one would need those mirrors. Kind of reminds me of the way Japanese cars (if my memory is correct) used to have the mirrors pushed way forward. Oddly, the regular driver side mirror is still there. It's a little overpriced for the market of the moment I think considering it's glaring non-original status, if they want to sell it right away (not that I think they shouldn't be worth that much). They would really have to luck out finding the right buyer on the first go-around.

Oddly enough, there are people out there willing to pay these prices for these cars. I was searching the closed auction ebay files yesterday, and the last 2 type4s we flaged here on the forum sold for $1000 & $1600 respedctively, with no trouble at all. Then you add the trucking cost (never under $300) to that and its a lot of money for these cars.

True, I was surprised that yellow 4dr. fetched $1000 with that serious rust around the windshield, looked like a disaster to try to fix properly.

Makes you really wonder what those people want to do with these cars, and what they end up doing when they find out the scope of work needed.

Oh I think $1000 and $1600 are going to end up being low prices very quickly. Iwould have paid that easily for this blue 2 door....if they had left it alone...meaing original worn out seats and original but faded or peeling paint. Then I know what it has and what it needs.

I think the high price ranges right now of $2000-3500 for totally immaculate but otherwise unrestored examples are worth it. But for the moment...thats about MAX. Because?....well. because...even the finest example of 411/412 to date that I have seen...will need....brakes, front suspension rebuild, rear suspension refurb, tranny work on either manual or auto, and possibly engine work on at least 70% of them. Thats just to correct some of the flaws in the original parts that deteriorate wth age.....to make them safe to drive on any kind of regular basis without further destroying parts. Thats a lot of cash to fix even the finest.

NOW...in say 2-3 years when a lot of 411/412's you start finding can say...."all new ball joints, strut cartridges and bushings, idler arm and centerlinks....new rear bushings...front lowered level (or not)....gas tank sealed, new window gaskets and fenderbeading, intact engine sealing boots, new master cyclinder".....then THATs a daily runner...that would be worth $4-5k. Hey...was it you ...MGVWfan...who wanted to try a rebuilt front center link? Someone did. I have one I can rebuild and send to someone...but you must send an old one back when you are happy. I only have a few cores. Ray

I think that was me Ray. I was going to try to set one up while I had the front end out.

Well, just let me know. I have not decided wether to just rebuild for people or sell kits. I have rebuilt mine, but want to see if the variations between each one will just let me install one set of parts...or if custom fit is needed for each. Ray
