Actually the mold for that one was done the year before last, but I only made one for myself at the time...because I thought that some group of guys on the type 3 listing were selling a repro (the type 3 and type 4 use the same boot). I can make them easily if anyone wants them. I cast mine from pourable silicone. Much higher heat and better gas resistance. I can also make them from Urethane...but I don't like the texture.
Its just been on the back burner because I had a solution alreday but no need other than my own. Ray

Ach, du Lieber Herr Langen! I'd better call Sgt Shultz on you, schnell!
So, does the plunger cup seal OK? You may have fond something there, at least until Ray or someone gets a better replacement...I have the same problem with the Nomad.
BTW, anyone ever fixed the filler door latch catch that's made of potmetal and always seems to be broken on every T4 I've ever seen? Mine has a patch of velcro on it to hold the door down...

Danke Schoen, for this fine bit of ingenuity, I won't send Major Hochstetter around your barracken! Raus, Raus!!
OK, for those of you young 'uns who don't remember REAL TV, an explanation. Most of the above post contained shallow attempts at humor using characters from Hogan's Heroes, a 60's TV classic (well, at least in my house it was, right up there with Star Trek and I Dream of Jeannie). Apologies if I lost you for a while. You may now return to your previous Type 4 postings, already in progress...

I heard an NPR show a while back with one of the producers of Hogans Heros (love that show). They tried to pass off the humor on the European/German market as well in the mid 60's. The production executives were surprised that the Europeans found no humor in making fun of Nazis

. What a pack of dumb-as*es! I guess they found it hard to seperate the uniform from 42,000,000 dead.
But guess what!...No its very popular they said....in Germany!...Go figure!
I will be picking up new casting materials right around the end of the month, for silicone items. Things to be cast that I already have molds for...are the filler boot...and the rear air boot for sedans. Things I am contemplating molds for...cause they are simple...are door handle gaskets, mirror gaskets, taillight and turn signal gaskets, and......runner boots, oil pressure switch boots......and bumper stanchion boots...which were never offered for this car. I have very little left to do on the air boot. I am also working on a mold for the intake air boot to the air cleaner, including a version that fits the later model 2 liter TB. Ray

Ooops. That aint no guest, that was me. Actually I can understand why the Europeans back in the 60s didn't find Hogan's funny, when you are so directly impacted by such a mammoth tragedy, its hard to stomach any humor in it. teh Americans on the other hand were somewhat more insulated from any immediate or instant outcomes. Europe was by and large totally devastated. Heck, the Americans were already over it by the late 40s while europeans' hate and suspecion of the germans lingered for another 30 years. When my wife (german) and I lived in Frankfurt in the 90s and drove to Amsterdam, the hotel owners adviced us to park our car in the back alley because it had german license plates. They said it would get vandalized. When we told them that its a 68 bug, they said dont worry then, you will only get compliments if any.

The Type 3 gas tank filler boot is a close match. Not quite exact, the filler neck must sit slightly different in the opening because the rubber pulls a little on one side when you use it on a Type 4.
I got two of them from ISP West a couple years ago, they auction some on eB*y occassionally. Cost varies depending on how little they're willing to take at that particular time.

Were they NOS or Repros? How is the quality? any signs of composite denigration due to long storage? Have you actually used any, and how are they reacting to gasoline?
