Pretty sweet, but I would have expected it to be faster? Probably the gearing.

I agree, these numbers don't make it worth the effort, IMHO.

Very interesting. I would have to agree though, those numbers do look low.

Those numbers are WHACKO, the car should run faster than that, I wonder whats wrong with it to run so slow. The Square really isnt THAT heavy. 236 hp should push that bugger real good.

No kidding. Thats kinda slow. I got just under 9 seconds 0-60 with my modified 1.7L. I would bet its the gears...or it does not really have 236 hp...or that the rpm band is too high. Ray

I agree with what Ray says, my 4 door with a 1.8 and an exhaust leak come close to those numbers.

Even if that is flywheel horsepower, still...My GTI VR6 will supposedly do a 15.5 quarter with ~171 flywheel hp and a much heavier car...I had a thought, though, maybe he's having a hard time getting traction? My vote is trans. is probably geared to haul some major Balzac on the open road.
Damn if the thing doesn't look hot has hell though!

Nope, never been in one, never challenged one. I think stock they are slightly slower? Heck, I'm not sure, but they are so easily modified to have big power. I really like the character of the VR6 even though it isn't very powerful for the size and complexity, it still feels fast in my MKIII. The MKIV platform is another story, damn heavy! I've driven my friend's Audi TT 225TQ, and also ridden in a friend's New Beetle 1.8T w/mods (est. around 220hp) and they seemed pretty fast, but not scary. I'll tell what is scary-fast, one of my buddies brothers had a modified Ford F150 Lightning... :D

When I bought an F150 back in 2000 the salesman offered to let me drive a Lightning, I declined, I knew what it would do to me!

A3 Golfs, will walk all over their respected A4 models, I had a guy in a stock 01 GL challenge me in my GL and I walked on him hard, I beleive that is the same cross flow 2 litre that the a3's had?

Anyway If the guy in the Square had 236 at the Flywheel what would has HP be at the tires?

I think the MKIV 2.0 is slightly different, similar performance to the ABA engine...
Anyway, I think that the only real way to calculate flywheel vw. wheel horsepower is to dyno the motor out of the car, then dyno the car after the motor is in to see what the loss from the drivetrain/friction is.
