I don't think those are the actual production #'s. I think those are the sales #'s. There were type 4's sold in Europe and other places as well. It would be nice to know for sure. Ray

Right, I think the production label in there is a misnomer, they meant U.S. sales.

If those are actuall numbers, that means you own a huge portion of the 74 run!!!!!!

Probably a measurable percentage of the remaining 2dr.'s at least...

Yep...either way...thats a stunningly low figure of cars that came to this continent. I can't imagine how small of a portion that the two doors were. Do you know....that I got my first four door in 1979. It was 1986 before I saw my first 2 door...ever....and I was looking. I have seen less then 15 since...in person. Ray

The only 2dr.'s I've seen, I bought! Just towing the beaten down 412's on a trailer attracted a lot of attention. The people that even knew of the Type 4 had no clue there was even a two door sedan. I can't imagine how cool it will be when I'm driving one around! Now I definitely can't scrap the '73 seeing those numbers!

I saw lots when I was first driving (74-82), and most of them were Variants, a few 4-doors, no 2-doors.

I only have the faint recollection of seeing a wagon driving when I was younger. Granted, I'm pretty young (27!). There are some wagons still sitting at a friend's private junkyard less than a mile from the house I grew up in (where my parents still live). The only other ones belonged to the owner that I bought the wrecked gold '74 from- a parts wagon and 4dr. sedan. I've travelled by car all over the country and always keep an eye out for unusual cars, and I've managed to spot some obscure stuff, but NO type 4's, let alone 2dr. sedans.

I never ever saw a Type 4 until I bought mine 3 years ago!!!

Something is wrong...

I don't think those numbers are broken down by real *model year*, I guess it's calendar year. The 1971 model year was only 4 months long because the 411 started selling in April of 1971. They could not have sold more in those 4 months than the full 12 months from August 1971 until July 1972 :)

H'm I wonder then if the '74 number includes a % of '73 412s :?: :?

Makes no sense

Come to think of it, those 1974 numbers make no sense at all. If anything, sales stayed level or fell in those last years.

I wouldn't mind knowing where those numbers came from...
