ReVolks in Siloam Springs, AR had the seals when I pulsed in December (I've still gotta call them and order mineJust got a 1974 412. A/C - F/I - Auto. The body is in great shape, only surface rust. The motor was out but I have it and most all parts for it.
Questions and concerns:
1. If I remove body rubber [glass, fender, doors..] can I get new ones to put it back together with.
Keep the FI if you can. Yours should have Bosch L-Jetronic, which is a simple system using an airflow meter. If all the pieces are there, and the are in decent shape, either L-Jet or D-Jet (the system used on pre-74 411's/412's) are far better at metering fuel for the T4 engine. Before you decide, take a look at this link for further info...2. As noted above, motor is F/I. Friends tell me to scrap that and go carbs. Any recommendations?

Note that the Porsche 914 had the same engine as the T4, so the same considerations for carb conversions apply to us.
There are online wiring diagrams, but I don't know myself of a place with a scan of the owners manual. However, the battery goes under the driver's seat (you probably knew that), and getting the seat released so it can tilt aft far enough to remove/replace the battery is usually the problem. There's a little lever under the left side forward of the drivers seat, and if the linkage isn't too distorted (mine was), you can pull the lever to the left and cause the seat vertical travel locking pin to disengage from the "Y" shaped steel support under the front center of the seat, and tilt it rearward. If you can't get the linkage to disengage, try spraying the pin up under the seat with S'OK, WD-40, something to loosen it, then try it again. If that doesn't get it, you'll have to wedge yourself under there with a pair of mole grips on the silver 90 degree pin, and pull it out of engagement with the vertical adjuster rack thingy. After you do that, remove the seat by pulling the seat fore-and-aft adjuster up to disengage it, and sort of rock the seat forward in its tracks until one side is disengaged. Then you can get to the linkage that's distorted, and pull it out and shorten it so the little lever can disengage the pin again. Lube up the vertical travel adjuster's pin, reinstall the seat, and you'll be able to get to the battery as Wolfsburg intended.3. Anyone know the source of an on line owners manual? I need to figure out how to put the battery in.
Hope that helps! Welcome to the fraternity of T4 owners!
