New dash, anyone interested

My wife's nephew who lives in germany was telling his buddy that I just got a 412, and he said that their neighbors still have sitting in their garage a dash that they ordered a while back but never installed. Now, my car's dash looks ok to me with 2 cracks, so am not interested. If anyone is interested let me know if I should pursue it.

Don't know if the dash is the same between a 411 and a 412, but if it would fit a '72 411 I would give it a go. Can you get me the part number?

Hmmm... I'm out of money right now, but at least find out how much $$ they might want for it...

Ok, I already told David to "casually' pursue it and find out how much they would want for it. From his initial email, I get the feeling that they have a clue on its rarity. Also shipping would be a factor ( I'd say $60 just to pull a number out of a hat ). I'll also ask him to pay a visit and take a close look at it and report back to me, the kid has no interest in cars, so I am making a list of things to look for. I also have no idea if both the 11 & 12 had the same dash.

The dashes can be swapped on any of them. But...bear in mind...there are minor differences that will take some very minor re-routing. For instance, on some of the 411's...the heater control knob and the flasher switch change positions. From the 411 to 412... you have a larger "fasten seat belts light" So if you have a 411...and want to put in the 412 dash...just swap the metal bezels over...and its no prob. But if you swap the 411 to the 412...and want to keep the 412 bezels....you will need to enlarge the hole undreneath the bezels for that seatbelt light to fit. Once the bezels ar back on though...everything looks like factory. All else is the same. Ray

Any one go ahead and purchase the dash? Can Long Beach find out if these folks have a source? When did they buy the dash? You certainly can't get them here. Was it sitting in their garage for decades perhaps :?
Thanks :!:

The last email I got from his info gathering idicates loosly that the father had the dash replaced under warrantee due to a small blemish near the ash tray and it has sat in the garage ever since. I also gave him a description of waht it should look like, since he is not a car guy. His description confirms except that there are round knob openings in place of the rectangular seat belt light openings, and there is no fake woodgrain cover, Just black. And no cracks or tears. For other details, pls read my earlier post.

Ah, right, I believe the woodgrain was for the North American market only, right?

Probably. The one on mine is fading around the edges. Someday I'd like to wipe it out all together once I find out the proper solvent.

Thanks! I am interested. I recently posted regarding having my dash restored. Problem is so far I have not been able to find anybody willing to tackle the job of removing and I am not willing to tackle it myself. Just put a Dashmat cover on it and it looks OK but ultimately I want to restore or replace. Thanks for your time on this :!: Steve

That wood grain will not be wiped off. Its a decal of course. The trim plates come off with no problem and are metal. Of course.....you have to pull the dash. That is really a pretty easy job. On a scale of 1-10....it rates about a 5. Pulling the engine rates about a 7. Once the dash is off...you will immediatly see the little tube nuts that hold these parts on. Take them loose, either bead blast them or simply pour stripper on them like I did and putty knife the stuff off. Them you can paint them any color you want....or body color like I did. In fact...they are the only part of my car that IS painted right now  Ray
