Windshield gasket

Post by wildthings »

While I was scrounging through VW parts houses in the back streets of Puebla, Mex recently I came across a wingshield gasket for a Brazilia. Thinking that it might also fit a Type 4 I bought it for a few bucks and brought it home. I laid it out over top of my 411 windshield today and it looked real close in both size and cross section. Does Ray or anyone else know for sure if the Brazilia and the Type 4 share a windshield gasket. What about the windshield itself. I would guess that there are more Brazilia windshields floating around Mexico than there are Type 4 windshields floating around the states.

Hm...interesting...somehow I doubt the windshields are exactly the same, but you never know. They might be similar enough to use a Brasilia gasket, though. revolks.net sells window gaskets for the Type 4, at least they did, I think they are the only place in the world that has/had new, correct items.

No, I wish I had a Brasilia, that would be neat. There is at least 1 in the U.S. Wouldn't be too hard, just go down there, buy one, and drive it back up. Better like road trips though! At least there would be some hope of getting it fixed along the way in Mexico. If I went through that much, I think I'd try to find an SP-2! So another place does have 411/412 windshield gaskets? I'll be giving revolks my business if they still have them when I have the $$$. I'd like to support them because nobody believes this area is worth a damn, but look, rare parts for a cool, rare car right down in the Ozarks!

Yeah, there is an SP-2 for sale on thesamba.com in Florida, around $12,000 USD I think. I'll stick to my 412's for now. :D

You guys just answered a question I've had about a car I saw in Guatemala in 1976. It was a Brasilia! It looked like a 412 from the front, and like something from another planet from the rear (at least in 1976) . I went to the page of a Brazilian VW group, and there it was! I may even have a photo from back then of that car.

The other strange VW I saw in a later trip was something called an "Atlantico", I think... :?

VW de Mexico and VW do Brasil sure had some interesting cars over the years!
