I scored another distributor the other day - along with two of everything for a fuel injection system - and it's an electronic unit.
No points or condensors, but an optical triggering mechanism. It's a Bosch part that I have seen before as standard on one of the 411 injection cars we had when I was younger.

It has the trigger mechanism for the FI in the lower portion as normal, and then a 3-pin female plug receptacle marked "+ 0 -" .

My question now is if it is possible to make this operate on my carb-fed motor whilst I prepare everything and get ready to convert to FI?
Is it possible to run this instead of the normal old points and condensor dist.?

Also - CHT sensors.

The sensor in my my current engine and that in a spare set of heads I have was removed at some stage and the little metal tube it would fit into has been bent over and flattened. Amongst the gear I recently scored for FI are no CHT sensors.
What exactly does this thing look like and what is it made up of?? I will most likely have to make something similar to replace what is missing.
Any comments?

Just havn't had time to answer everything. It has triggers for D-jet....and an optical system?....you mean a hall system right?.... above it for ignition? Its not stock for any D-jet unless it was on one of the old Renault or possibly mercedes....if its D-jet...which I doubt. Please read the part # on the dizzy to us. But...as long as the D-jet section has the cam necessary for the car you are putting it on, the ignition type should be excellent. Be sure you get the coil for it if its hall type.

There is no metal tube for CHT...unless you are speaking of the actual bore in the head wherin the sensor screws in?....That would just need to be re-tapped. If you are speaking of the scrimped portion of teh screwin sensor....if there is any damage whatesover...its scrap and you need a new sensor.

If your distributor has a 3 prong plug marked whose wires are marked as you note...and it has a cad plated (brass colored) shutter wheel up top....chances are its digifant. The 3 wire plug may be for the advance and ignition. Please give part number and describe gear on bottom.

As for how it performs...it should run fine as long as you have the coil, module etc. You did not comment as to wether it had an advance unit. If its digifant...you will have no advance...with out the EFI ECU. If is from a vanagon or other...it shoul have cengtrifugal....but you may have to tweek the curces for your engine. Simple...just tedious . Ray

I dont think its D-jet, Ray. I don't think D-jet ever appeared over here in any shape or form ; only L-Jetronic. It has the normal terminals 21, 12, 22 on a lower plug receptacle for the EFI triggering.
Yes - above this is where the points plate would be, and another plug receptacle marked - 0 + . It has a vacuum advance unit fitted

I am not familiar with which coil it should run with? Any numbers?? The module - that may be the smallish ribbed metal box screwed to the engine compartment bulkhead on the wrecked 411, that I remember had the same dizzy as this......................I will check.

There you go - thats what it looks like - cadmium plated wheel with four shutters that pass between two closely spaced electronic components. 180 degrees away from the "eye" is a small metal plate with a magnet on it which lies fractionally off the surface of the wheel. The rotor mounts on the shaft right above the wheel.

The 3 wire plug may be for the advance and ignition. Please give part number and describe gear on bottom.

That may be tough one out here.......... Any part numbers? Can I make one up from components from the electronics store?? What exactly is it and how does it work??

L-jet distributors have no trigger wires to the dizzy. The numbers you refer to.....are normal terminals ONLY for D-jet. That Dizzy #...is in fact a d-jet dizzy...I have an "h" model....but I have no idea what it actually came from. The hall system is not a normal part of a D-jet dizzy...but can easily be installed. Yes...you will need the module for it.

The CHt should be easy to get. Many cars used them. I do not have all of my books on hand. They would be extremly hard to make. It helps set the fuel mixture on the injection. I will dig up a part #...or I'm sure its been posted before. Tell us more about where you got this dizzy from. Ray
