I'm confused. What is it you're asking for? You say your looking for vacumn hose connections; you found 4 points on carb and two on dizzy.... are you asking how the dizzy ports connect to the carb?

Bucko I am puttting the motor back in and need to know how the vac hose's connect to the carb and to the distributor it looks like this 74 Thing had a EGR system on it at one time A PICTURE WOULD BE WORTH A >>>>

I did a search on the "type 1 forum", as I have seen this question pop up many times there. Here is a responce from "AUSSIE", which should help you out (sorry, no picture yet) AUSSIE uses the word "canister" to refer to the distributors Vacumn advance unit:
The type2.com article has it right.

Just to sumarize, the advance line on the canister is the rearmost (rear is rear of car) and on the carby, on the left side.

The retard line on the canister is the front one (closest to the distributor body) and on the carby it's on the rear of the carburettor (if there are several connections there it's the one pointing straight back from the carb).

The EGR valve is probably connected to a port UNDER the carb in the manifold. If it's connected to the carb itself, the carb would need another port in the rear of the carby - probably sticking out at an angle.

And the vacuum advance line must have an inverted J shape - it must angle UP higher than the float bowl before heading back down to the vacuum canister - this prevents any fuel from the carby entering the canister and ruining the diapghram. If you don't have the original metal J shaped tube, loop the rubber vacuum line upward before it heads down to the canister.

Bucko: You are SOOOO right about using the metal air lock line. I was messing with my 73 stock thing and for a few days just used a short piece of vaccum line from the advance side of the dist to the carb....result: ruined distributor advance can. Replaced same and reinstalled the stock line. Perfect. Moral: in the old days, VW knew what they were doing. Best to do it pretty much like they designed. Bill
