Aaaaah yes....Lewis electronics/engineering. I have seen the very working drawing for that gauge face. Lewis electronics was aquired in about 2001 in the largest defense industry meeger in history. That would be part of that Northrup Grumman....and god knows what else ...reshuffle.
A print company I worked for, had been contracting for years (this is back in 98-99)....to print some of that companies gauge faces. They were ISO 9001/QS 14000.....made gauge faces for military aircraft, submarines, tanks, trucks, generators etc. We had to screen print a clear base in the form of the numerals on very ,very small decal stock. Then dust it with a luminescent powder (called invisible orange)...$142 an ounce
......still cheaper than other "white" powders....uh...so I am told 
......but, this powder then looked white in daylight, but was backlit...by blacklight....at night, wherin the numerals glowed electric orange. They also continued to glow after lights out...for about 10-15 seconds. Perhaps enough to see oil pressure, or volts in a dying aircraft.

Wow, great info Ray! That stuff sounds cooool! Need to save up and add it to my paint job so my car will glow a cool orange at night! I remember printing and using that white stuff that you run through the oven attachment to get stuff to puff up the graphics, just dont let the paper get a jam or its a fast grab for the metal trash can so you wouldnt burn up the whole job or the shop,lol! It would be cool to redo the 412 gauge set decals in some cool look! I do like the way it is now with the warm glow. bill

Yep...done enough "puff" ink in enough Textile shops....heinous stuff 
. I am consulting at a medium sized graphic (cvreenprint)/, offset litho/flexo firm right now. They are taking on a quote for a massive (multi-million) piece order...for fabric transfers . Iron ons. yes...I have printed...and helped set-up numerous transfer shops. But...this quantity should be printed offset...or flexo. But they cannot maintain the density of ink.....so I may have to tool up to print ....like 200,000 sheets of this crap.....love this job somedays. Ray
