Rear Bearing Seals

Post by Bowman74 »

I have been able to locate the rear bearings for my 412 without a problem. However, I have not been able to find the seals (two per side). Does anyone know the part numbers for these? Are they the same as for standard VW IRS systems?

Thanks,

Kevin

The inner and outer are both the same part#. I have a CR part # dor them, that you should be able to dross match at any bearing or seal dealer. It is.....CR-550280 Ray

Ray,
You wouldn't happen to have a bearing/seal dealer you use, do you? I've tried three different flaps and that cross reference number is NLA.

There is a large bearing chain that is coast to coast....a series of dealers really, try bearings inc. Also try Purvis bearings. Just look under bearings in teh yellow pages. There should be numerous industrial bearing dealers near you. The brand...CR...is a large conglomerate of generally good stuff. That is a standard industrial bearing seal. When I get home later...i will look in my VW 411 parts list for the actual part #. Its very similar ...if not the same, to type 3. Ray

According to the parts book I just received today, both inner and outer rear seals are the same p/n, and that's 411 501 315B. There's also an O-ring under the outer retainer bolt, it's 411 501 237, and a seal for the bearing cover, 113 501 291. YMMV, if one can trust this parts book (International Parts Service, subsidiary of Warehousing Service Co. of LA).

Yep, you will not find these seals at any FLAPS...but theye are common at any bearing dealer. The part # I gave you will get you a seal at a bearing dealer. The factory VW part # will not. Ray

Yep...VWBill has the right idea. Bearings and drives is part of that same national network of bearing jobbers....that have that symbol somehwere in their window...you know...red, blue ,black...with a pair of bearings and a couple of strips going straight up....looks oddly like a "penis".... .If your city has busniesses with machines in it...you have at least one bearing dealer. Just bring them a seal....They can match it up. This is a pretty common seal. Ray

I'll let you know how it works out. They also have the Timkin 2 piece rear bearing sets (LM78349 bearing and LM78310A race).

A note....these seals can be hard to put in, especially the inner one. Its wsorth ot to "make" a seal driver. Go down to a local nut and bolt company. What you want...are washers with an outside diameter either just a hair smaller....or larger....then you can grind them down. But...they will probably be about $2 ea. Get three. They should have anywhere from a 1/2"-3/4" hole in the center. Get a fat piece of all thread and two lock nuts and washers. Between the nut and bolt dealer and homo depot....itshould run about $12-15. Use that to tap the inner seal in flat. Ray
