Damn, your car is Sew Fine!

Post by bonzosa »

Hey vdubbers,

I've been searching the archives and saw that several of you are interested in having a pattern for seat covers made at sew fine....
http://www.sewfineproducts.com/

I am afraid of being permanently impaled on a seat spring in my '71 411. The horsehair of the has been reduced to being a battery concealer.

Let's do this. 8)
Behold the power of bulk orders!

How many of you are still interested?

Ray, are you still able to submit the sample?
I am happy to kick in $20 for the creation of a pattern, Ray, you should not bear the financial burden alone. Especially if alot of people are interested.

If someone has dealt with sew fine and want to organize the order, that's great! If not, I am happy to do it.

So glad to be back reading the posts....
keep 'em up!

Sure, I could probably still pull some money together when everyone else is ready. I have a car with thrashed seat covers I could pull from also, if necessary.

Ok...the spare seats i have with decent....non stretched out...covers, are coming out of the storage unit tonight. I will get busy stripping them off. I will try to contact Sew fine by wednesday. I think they should see teh front seat covers before they quote anything to us. They are not as simple as most others...as we all know. Ray

Is the pattern still available?

Post by vwbill »

Hey Guys, When i had my front driver seat recovered and the rest repadded; the interior shop said the patterns were still available I thought from Westcoast metric I think but the vinyl that I had which is the bamboo with the pleats wasnt so he had to make it look like it. I'm sure having the real thing is better though! Bill

What was the name of the shop that did your Seats, maybe those in your area could use them.

Interior shop

Post by vwbill »

The Shop was L&S Auto Trim 5721 NW 13th St. Gainesville,fl. 352-372-8661. They used this vinyl with a slight grain that was so soft and looked like the leather in a Mercedes! I couldnt afford to do all of them but when I picked up the seats I wish I had!! The driver seat is so sweet But I wanted to still show how the seats did look! Bill

Sew fine stuff rocks... much spendier than TMI... but some cars demand the quality difference.

I'm sure Sew Fine is awesome! Probably the show car guys! I can email you a pic of my driver seat(I cant get the posting thing ever to work) but I cant tell you how great the pic would compare to actual! Bill
p.s I wonder if you guys should call since I dont know about payment stuff but they didnt want a deposit from me when I dropped off my stuff?

Called em!

Post by vwbill »

Hey Guys, talked with L&S Trim and they said they would be happy to help anyone out with their seats by drop shipping ups and doing a credit card billing. Just call first. They said that someone should be making seat cover for the cars already like West Coast Metric or he gave a name in CA. called G.A.H.H. dont know if its just GAHH? He did say there are alot of good trim shops out there though but he does lots of cars for people that travel down with there cars for the season in Ocala and the state. I do see how having a one shop create a bulk order could save but would that just be the pattern and how would the bulk order work for colors? I dont think I could do the job they did with working the tensions!

There would be no reason for anyone to be making covers for these. The pattern is nothing like any other VW. The back seat...is about 98% identical to like 70 model type 3 fastback, but the fronts are unique. The closest to them are the leather models that came on a Dasher 4 door. Just similar. Bill, Does your car have the original seats?

Sew fine had never had a single request for type 4 seats...and have never seen one yet. Ray

I had originals plus one bad redo, lol!

Post by vwbill »

Hey Ray, my car came with a bad driver seat redo with smooth vinyl with no pleat look and the other seats are original light tan bamboo seats so I just had the driver seat remade to look like the pass front seat outta a vinyl that looks like leather and he added pleats to look like as much as the original and just had the pass front seat and rears repadded. They came out nice! Really, he said he had checked(When I had them done) on the patterns for the seats for the 411/412 and said they were still out there? I dont know if someone is actually making them but the so called patterns seem to be out there?? Truthfully I look at the seat they remade and it looks great so I guess I dont know why it matters for recovering unless you dont have anything to go on and want to do it yourself... I guess having it made from the pulled original covers would save for making more then one but you still have to have them installed and tensioned and they do that for a living and it showed! I'm sure you guys can do that stuff but I dont think I could have match the work!
I would go in on a backup set of covers if the group is going to get a deal going if that works out! Bill
