What year/model? Stock or aftermarket steering wheel?

hi,
my car is a 71' 12-- standard beetle. it is using the old hard stock steering with the horn half ring. it does not use the padded steering. the steering still has the lever to push the indicator back after turning but i wonder if it mite be worn or the switch itself is worn. regards, dev

On my car, the problem was that the gap between the turn signal housing and the steering wheel was to great. Once they were closer together, I think around .010 inches it should work, providing that the cancel ring is in place.

is the turn signal ring located on the wheel? of it is so, then it is still there, i lil plactic petrution coming out of the back portion of the wheel which hits the switch to cut off. the switch works too but it isnt that sensitive as what it was before it was repaired

hi. thanks a million sagaboy. the thing is that now i got the right signal cancelling fixed. the problem now is the left turning signal. when i click it down (i.e. left signal) it moves back into place but it doesnt click off. i have to push a lil bit up to maker sure that it is still not flashing. i am still blurr on how to rectify this fault. thanks a million for ur replies
