Any of you out there have an opinion on looking in Europe (notably Germany) for a 411 Wagon with 4 speed manual transmission? I understand that only automatic versions were imported to USA by VWofA(?) I'm willing to wait (and pay) for a good driver.

Some Type 4 wagons were sold here with 4 speeds, I have seen 1. You might have to look REALLY hard to find them.

The two door coupes were imported to the US with four speeds...but in very limited numbers, compared to the wagons and four doors which were all autos over here.

If you find a totalled coupe with a good transmission, you can covert the wagon or four dooe in a matter of an afternoon. All of the proper holes are already inside the body.
Just need the fluid resoivoir, clutch hydraulic tube ....(both metal pieces, andthe flexible line),either the pedal cluster as a unit...or just the pedals, crossshaft and two springs, the clutch master cylinder, shifter and shift gate, shift rod and rear plastictunnel "bung", tranny and slave cylinder and the mount from the automatic nose cone.
It all bolts right up. Ray
