Shoot!......how the heck do you know if it has a mid exit or end exit? I need the latter for my 74....

That is a damper type...or mid exit...I think. I can't read German...but that word in the expanded view of the tag...appears to be something..."damper". The mid exit is called a damper type muffler. It might also explain why they didn't show the other side of the muffler....as unless it comes with the pipe...or you have one already...then you are SOL.....as they are generally unavailable. But...Leistritz is an excellent brand. Ray

Yup, you got that right Ray. I never bothered looking at the tag, figured too small to read. It says schalldaepfer.......Deampfer= Damper. But I think the whole word means 'muffler". I fired it off to the wife for clarification. She did her vocational training at a dealers parts dept.

I got the answer from the horse's mouth, verbatum:
"HELLO, THE EXIT IS SOMEWHAT MID MUFFLER AND IS AT AN ANGLE. ~FRANZ"

Yup...damper type. A little more restrictive than the end exit....but very quiet. Also, thats a great brand. If its cheap...get it. You can always have the pipe fabbed. Ray

Really? who would fab it? like any muffler shop? howbout clearing the grill piece?

The real problem with fabricating the tail pipe....is the little details. It actually had a reduced diameter end piece with a slight bend in it (to make it lay flay along the muffler body)...that inserted into the hole. It then had a ceramic type sealing ring.....and a tab type clamp....much like a distributor clamp. An 8mm bolt goes through the hole in the metal tab welded to the pipe....and screws into a nut welded into the muffler body....locking it down. The other end of the tail pipe...has another tab that locks it down to the muffler in the same way. Thats why the pipe for the left or right , damper style exit are different. The tabs are reversed.

Hardware kits with sealing ring are easy to find...just not the pipe itself. Any decent muffler shop...with a hydraulic expander/swager/bender unit....could easily and quickly fab up a quick pipe with the slight bend...and then swge it to reduce to hole size...then tack weld on a couple strips of 1/8 steel for the tabs. I suspecy....it would cost about $45. The pipe itself...generally ran about $30+. Ray

I have one of those damper tailpipes and sealing ring. If it exits either side, I have one of each. Will make a good deal if anyone needs one for this type of muffler. I have a complete set for my 412.

Hey have them fab the end to match the exit hole and tee it into two tips and put chromey ends on it,lol! Fakey dual pipes! Probably not worth the work though to do that! Bill

Is this Kevin? Did you ever find a rear fender for your 4 door?

Yes this is Kevin. Still no luck with a 4 door fender. I do have a NOS 2 door fender though. I'm trying to get rid of a wagon hull with A/C. I've got a small collection of these damper pipes I've picked up at swap meets.

How's the A/C condenser on that wagon hull?

The condensor looks good. The complete unit looks real good.
