man the price of that puts it way out of the typical do-it-yourselfer.

If you build 1 or 2 engines every 3 to 5 years that would be a waste.

ALOT of that stuff is Industrial and requires 3 PHASE, most neighborhoods are not wired for 3 phase.

By the way, what the hell is a VW Bettle?

No a Clothes dryer runs off of 2 single phases, kinda complicated, they run off of different "legs" of your household. (You actually have 2 lines of electricity runing into your house that have different wave forms.) In Industrial 3 phase you would have 3 lines of electricity entering the building each with a different wave form. There would actually be 3 "hots" needed to run the equipment, these are usually always hardwired directly into the equipment.

Now the seller could be confused and the equipment might just be "2 phase"

There just really isnt any use for 3 phase in residential, BUT if you live close enough to a MALL or an Industrial area your neighborhood might already have access to 3 phase, call your power company and they can tell you.
