It bolts onto the bottom of your engine in place of the steel cover under your oil strainer. It should come with a piece of tube that extends the pipe in teh center of that bell shaped baffel inside of your case, that is attached to the pcik-up tube. It simply puts the oil tube down at a lower height so it cannot ever easily have air slosh over the end. I think Jake makes a mod that is similar on certain engines he builds. Ray

Ahh, the tuna can. Bill,these are really used for cars that do a lot of sharp cornering where you are worried about your sump going dry. If you are AutoXing your type-4 they are a good buy. I use one on my 2.0 914. You can buy them new from Pelican Parts (see the Weltmeister oil trap).

Edit to add: One more thing, they hang down off the bottom of your engine in place of the normal oil drain. If you hit this on anything or catch it on anything... well bad stuff will happen.
