Me and my mate have both come into ownership of a type 4. he has a 412 and i have the 411. Both are auto transmission. both are missing linkage. it must be something that breaks as he found another 412 but again no linkage to salvage. does anyone have any photos of this phantom piece so we can fashion some or know of any alternative gearbox linkage we can track down to fit our transmission

It is a cable linkage from the gear shift lever to the transmission. Are you missing the shifter...or the cable. Both the cables and the shifter were quite tough. They only broke when the ywere poorly adjusted or not lubricated in forever. Ray

If you mean the cable from the box through the tunnel to the shifter, it's really tough to find (never seen one in a year of keeping an eye out), it's not the same as the T2 or T3 AT cable...but I've not heard of one going bad myself.

sorry i didnt get back straight away. i haven't actually seen the missing part as of yet. This is because i don't have my gearbox yet but from what my mate is saying is that cable runs into something mounted on the gearbox (he calls it linkage). that is the piece that is missing. He said it mounts via two nuts or bolts.
