For those who don't sprechen, that means "The guard at the gate."
Hi buddy,
Are you referring to your "Dysfunctional Community" post? Yep. I know you feel disrespected by the reaction you received.
I have been a member of forums where the moderators did nothing to keep the tone civil. The end result is endless threads of mindless juvenile name calling and one-upsmanship. Once that happens, decent civic-minded (and usually better informed) members find somewhere else to post, the forum degenerates into an intellectual ghost town, and becomes useless. That's bad for everybody. So, an involved and savvy moderator takes steps to prevent it from happening. And rightly so.
Okay, so it looks like your "Dysfunctional" thread was yanked. When you posted the same thread on the
Samba, the moderator asked you to curb your attitude. The fact that your post got similar reactions on two different forums might be a sign that it was a little more inflammatory than you intended, rather than an indication that the moderators are unreasonable.
I understand why you felt frustrated. You asked questions and got no answers. Nobody likes that. But I think you could deal with it better. In your
CV Bolt Torque Spec thread, when you felt you hadn't gotten the number of replies you deserved, you wrote "Gentleman, Since I seem to be having a conversation with myself with very few exceptions, I might as well continue. . . " That type of attitude is not going to win friends and influence people. More likely it will only garner resentment. After all, participation in these forums is voluntary, and none of us has a right to expect anything.
By way of remediation, may I say that, IMHO, your posts tend to be more expository and less interrogatory. For example, you passed on the info you learned regarding the triple-square socket - a statement of fact with no question attached. A VW newbie myself, I appreciated that you posted the information. But I didn't think the message necessarily invited a response. Then you lashed out because you didn't get the responses you seem to have expected. See what I mean?
I think if you ask clear and direct questions, they will be responded to more frequently. Just my 2¢.
Cheers, and
viel Glück with your projects.
