Rear fan

Post by vwfye »

is the fan in the engine bay suppose to run anytime the key is in the on position? and, why is it running, but not moving much air? i checked all the hoses and attachements... all where they should be.

The auxiliary fan for the heater will only run when (a) The right hand floor lever is in the up or open position and (b) when the green heater knob is turned for starting the gas furnace. In fact, if everything is operating properly, the gas furnace will not start unless the right hand floor lever is up and the fan is running. Its a safety circuit. Ray

hmmm, mine runs with all the levers down and the gas heater switch in the off position... the weird thing is none of the wiring looks modified back there or under the dash

Dang.....I have been there and had that happen....but its been so long...I can't remember what the malfunction was. But....you have a yellow/black wire and a brown wire to the fan. The brown is the ground and leads ....going off memory here....to the block. That would mean that either someone has attached the fan to the wrong circuit...or perhaps you have a relay that is stuck. I'll have to dig out my diagramsw when I get home. Ray
