Has anyone put a '74 heat system (heat exchangers) into a '73 Thing?
Is this possible?

It's possible... in our baja stuff we route it through the firewall using flexible pipe... heater channels are one of the lowest points on a VW....
Most of the trashed 181s I've seen had non-gas heating systems.
Question --- do 74s have different channel setups

My '74 has large holes through the firewall for the hoses. No heater channels, per se.

We do the hose through the firewall on bajas... this may destroy the value of a thing.

I have been collecting all of the 74 heater parts for a few years to convert one of my 73s to 74 heat. I even have the body parts where the heat come through the body . A PO of my offroad 73 Thing made two big ugly holes in the back shelf and and ran heater hose up through em from the heat exchangers. He engaged them with a lever on the front bumper that open the heat butterflies. I removed all that stuff long ago but have still not repaired his ugly holes. K-mann
