Could anyone advise me on my current project?

I have a 1914cc engine (still in bits following a rebuild) and I would like to turbo charge it for a race car.

It has SF heads and I have 2 cams to choose from FK89 or E130.

This is for a race car so drivability is of no concern.

What I really want to know is what turbo/Carb combo would you guys recomend? It will be draw through and I have a plenum chamber and tubing for a holley 4 barrel.

You should look into the line of turbo cams that Engle makes. I think they have a TCS label. They come with 112 centerlines.

The computer model for a 2275 that a friend of mines is working on shows a 51 hp gain @ 8000 rpm with 8:1 compression and 24 lbs boost with one of these cams over and FK89 used in the same motor.

Definately worth a look.

Frankly, any cam over 296 degrees duration will work, get it on 111 LC. I don't like Engle cams at all, I prefer Web (been using them almost 15 years).

As I already have the engle cams I figured one of those will have to do.

What lobe center's are the engle cams?

So anyone advise what turbo and carb to use?

Go to this web site. It has a lot of turbo info. Go to the Turbo Calc page and you can enter your engine details and it will give you a recomendation.

Hmmm... John, are you familiar with negative overlap cam theory as it applies to full-on turbo race motors? I've got specs for a cam that made 1,000 hp @ 28 lbs of boost in a dual turbo Chevy smallblock. Negative 35 degrees overlap, 126 lobe centers, 200 degrees duration intake, 234 exhaust.

I'm not familiar with it, but would look into it if you gave me a couple leads! The late Dean Lowry ran 116 LC cams on his later engines, and he hauled @$$. Most VW cams are ground on 108LCs, and some guys run 105 for more torque, and turbos run 111 (mine) or 112. One problme to be aware of is where the type 4 cam lobe are WRT the crank; clearance is an issue on type 4s.

The following web page is a listing and specs of VW cams. John C. what are the specs on your Web cam? I don't see any specific turbo cams or any that are on a 111 lobe center. Is this a custom grind??

I have all turbo cams custom ground for the application.
