Who do you recommend I buy the manual from for the 411? I just bought a 411 2dr as I have never had 1 and thought I would try something unique! I will be hanging around this forum alot & asking more ignorant questions as I continue to dive into this car. thanks for all the assists as the trip begins...............

Congrats! Welcome to the T4 club! Pretty soon you'll be hoarding parts like the rest of us :)

The Haynes 411/412 manual is useful, and the Clymer manual is mostly inaccurate (it has lots of other-than-T4 images in there). I've got two Haynes manuals (the price was right!), and a Bentley T3 manual (the "brown book") for its auto tranny info. If you've got an auto tranny, the Bentley T3 book is pretty good for that, though it has one non-T4-ism (the number of check balls in the valve body is correct for the T3 implementation of the VW/Audi 003 AT, but not for the T4 or Bus implementation).

I understand Bentley has an Air Cooled VW CDROM for something like US$100, I can't comment on it because I've never seen one.

Any other neat books guys?

yeah, it seems like this is the elusive beast to find parts & everything for..... How about wiring schematics? I know there was a site that had alot of schematics on it,(which I cant remember)but I figure at the least I will need it!

I know somebody, if not several people, posted a link to wiring schematics before. I think I have a 411 schematic hanging around if needs be. Anyway, parts aren't that difficult to find with the internet. That's about the only thing I do know. Keep looking, the parts are rare, but they are out there! :D Have fun and good luck.

Thanks all! Yeah, it should be a fun time. I figure its fun to have the "oddball"(LOL) Most of my vw friends think I am nuts for buying it, because its not mainstream, but thats exactly why I did. (that & I have never had 1)

Got to love the 2doors,lol! That's what I'm a workin too! Have you seen that glove box green cover book on the ebayer? That little book has a lot of info even a wire sheet. I have it and the Clymer and use the green Bentley bus book for some of engine info. There are some great 914 sites that have some great info on the FI stuff and part ref. Good luck with your project! The gang here are great! bill
p.s Hey has anyone seen that wagen project on the other forum that's pretty far along and they cut out the window pillar?

Oh, yeah, if you've got a public library nearby that's been around since the early 70's, see if they've got a "National Service" book set, also called "Mitchell" service manuals. The '74 Import book has good engine, manual and auto transmission, and electrical info. The electrical schematic they use is not the easiest to follow, I like the online ones better, but their engine info is really good.

Here's a link to Vintagebus, they've got the best collection of VW wiring diagrams I've found. Scroll down to find the 411/412 section, and find your year...

Haynes book has some OK info- you can get them on Ebay

Type 3 Manual for the tranny

How to Rebuild A Volkswagen Air Cooled Engine

The Type 4 Bug Me Video

throw away your Muir book

With this info and MAYBE a Clymer book, you should do OK.
