Reduction Boxes on a '73 thing

What would it take to put reduction boxes on my '73 thing. I've got a good '67 reduction box tranny. Is there any benefit - other than lower gearing and the limited slip?

Well sort of. The ground clearance is better (compared to tearing up outboard CV joint boots) you can claim that your using Uni-Mog/Hummer-1 technology.
The handling is a little different, under acceleration the rear gets stiffer, completely not like the “squat” of a regular setup. Same goes for deceleration.

I like gear reduction, then again my truck left the factory that way.

You can get much better travel with the CV setup and there is way more after market stuff available. Not sure if they are still available but you used to be able to buy adaptors that would go from the bug style spring plate to a reduction box bus tranny. You would have to install the swing axle type spring plates first. I made my own adaptors for a tube frame many years ago. The low gearing was great but the hop at the back when you hit the gas was very annoying (to me). Very few bus trannies had Limited Slip so I would check that first if you are counting on it.

Where can I get the correct spring plates to bolt in the tranny with reduction boxes?

I don't know, I have a type-2.

The early things used gear reduction but I am not sure it is 1 ton, ¾-½ ton, real early ¼ ton or its own design. And I don't know the swing plate/bar interchange.

If it helps I use a flat torsion bar cover.
