Holes in the left/right bottom fenders

In removing the rear bumper of my 1971 Military Thing, I noticed three "patterned" holes on the left and right bottom of the rear apron.

What would these holes be for? The holes are approx. the size for a 13 MM type bolt (like a fender bolt). I can see the shadow of what looks like a triangular shape was bolted into these holes.

Any idea?

Post pictures on Samba. I suspect that the holes were where lights mounted. The rear of the Military Things had a number of extra lights. Black out dirve and a few others. All kinds of stuff bolted to the rear end of military Things. I just got a hold of some Thing rifle mounts and now am not sure where they mounted. When I got them i thought thye were the rear seat mounts but now am not sure. I alos got a rear auxillary brake light that I am unsure where the correct location for mounting exists. The whole journey is a fun time. K-mann

That was a correct assumption. My buddy from France (on the SAMBA site) responded with a photo.

Now, I need to find these three light assemblies.

I can help you with this; my military thing has the rifle mounts intact. The red brake light is actually a red fog light (or parade light) that mounts on the drivers side rear bumper (I have that too). It turns on with it's own dash switch (green faced switch that lights up).

If you want, I can send you pics of these rifle mounts and/or red running bumper lamp.[/img]

Yes please send the photos. Also the lights you need are available from Ken Crimmins in TX. I also want to get the lights. They show up form time to time on Samba and ebay but Ken has a constant supply of them.. K-mann
