German braided fuel line vs. EMPI 1/4" fuel line

Post by Dizzy »

Hi all. I figured I would post this here since the responses would be of great help to newbies.....
I always buy the metric braided fuel line available from CIP1 but a new VW shop just opened near me and they sell the EMPI fuel line. It does not have the outside braiding but instead it has a nylon reinforcement in the middle of the wall of the line. Is this as good or anywhere near as good as the real stuff?
Does it last as long, fit the same, handle fuel pressure as well, etc?? thanks.

I've used 7mm german wrapped fuel line for years, No problems with it dryrot and cracking most smooth rubber reinforced lines have, or the breakdown inside. Stay withe german line or better yet, Hard-line every thing fuel related, they sell aluminum fuel line for cheap and fitting too! alot cheaper than the rubber reinforced, if you think about replacement, the ally will last longer........A note to self check weight of stainless verse aluminum.......................Dave

Justun,

You know I always reccomend the OEM style German fuel line.

That motor I built for you will be on fire, if you don't stick with the good stuff.

I certainly hope you don't stray from my other reccomendation.... - Else, don't come back crying when it blows up.

That new EMPI distributor sells about 500 items.... I would actually buy and use only a few of the things they stock.

Hey Joe!!! Good to hear from ya!

I am using the german stuff. BTW, what's your price on it per foot? I should probably buy a bunch, always good to have extra.

Was also wondering, does Pape/Cat sell any line small enough to be used as fuel line? Was just wondering since you were so impressed with that hydrolic line we used for oil line.

I only used the german stuff but It ended up dry rotting and I had to cut off a few centimetres then at the tank I had a leak also. I am going to try the stainless stuff next time. I think the German stuff is cheap and the empi is even cheaper.
