Need Advice on Selling 412

Post by Denver412 »

Hey Guys,

I need advice on why my 412 Wagon did not sell on eBay. (link is below) I think this is a great deal for someone, as it is a great car in really good condition. Any feedback from the board would be appriciated. It has to go. Alternative will be to part it out, which I really don't want to do.

I would rather sell to someone on this board, even if that means some kind of creative deal like financing it for you with now interest.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Will in Denver

Hello, sorry she didnt find a good home! It looks like you had interest! 6 bids! What was your reserve price? Did you contact the high bidder? What do you think you would make in parting her? I dont know how much you have in her. Did you see the buy it now price of that sweet blue one! These cars dont get what they are really worth! Getting more rare! The parts are hard to find now and alot needs to be updated just from sitting to get a good driver. Did she have any of the tank filler rusting Ray talks about? I think if money wasnt the total issue maybe selling her to the high bidder might have given her a good home? Have you seen the sweet restored green one on the revolks site? You could try listing her on www.thesamba.com or lower the reserve? Sorry no help! Bill
p.s. I would love to have a wagen but I cant get the 2dr I have finished,lol!

The reserve was set at $2000 but I was going to lower it once I had a sense for what it might go for. The high bidder was not familar with the Type 4 and was just looking for a car to drive, so I really did not want to let it go to her.

I did see the blue one. Beautiful, and a deal that made two parties very happy!

This wagon is mechanically sound and has never sat unused, so no fuel issues.

It's just plain hard to sell these cars. They got a bad reputation when they were new- very expensive and virtually nobody had the mechanical knowledge to work on them. As I was mentioning just today, people like me weren't around while these cars were being produced, so I have no bias from hear-say and reputation of the era. I love the design and the specs. are impressive for an ACVW. Anway, I know you don't want to hear this, but the price is probably a little high- consider that Texas Yellow coupe in very nice driver condition in CA that has been for sale forever- and that is probably one of the most desirable Type 4's! His price is $1800 now, and it has been on ebay for $1500 starting bid! I wish I could buy them all man, I certainly have the storage space and desire. Mostly I lack time to pick up even the ones I've already purchased.
