Aye matey. Here's my little article on what to do.
Fortunately, IDF's are not real likely to get plugged up in areas you can't see, but using cleaner and compressed air, and knowing where the circuits go, and being able to watch the flow of carb spray helps a lot.
BTW, I suggest Berryman spray, it's pretty non residual and does a good job.
Recently I got turned on to purple power for soaking parts. I suspect it would make a good solvent for carbs too, I'd suggest using it diluted with one part water to one part PP. Getting the solution HOT would be a bonus to getting really gunky stuff loose.
Let me know if my article leaves you wondering.

That I don't know. I know it is hard on paint and glass, and the instructions do say to test on aluminum, so maybe not the best solution. I do know I have used it to clean my engine, and it works well for that, without leaving anything on it. Beware of using it on the aluminum pulleys, because they often have clear coating on them, and will haze from it's use.
The stuff I am referring to is made by Clean-Rite, and is not the stuff for cleaning out dope pipes. lol I looked for it at purplepower.com rather than clean-rite.com at first and got enlightened. heh heh.
The stuff that is MADE for doing this is chemdip, and is nasty stuff. With proper care, you'll be ok using it. Leaving parts soaking in it for days can leave the color of the carbs sort of dingy, but it works well. I dip stuff in it for a couple hours at a time, and then drain it off, and spray it out with Berrymans.

Simple Procedure:
1) Pack all your vital possessions, place in a knapsack, and place by the door.
2) Get a SS pot and put a gallon or so of Purple Power on to simmer.
3) Stew carbs until clean.
4) Run like hell when your wife founds out what you've done. Don't forget the backpack you've strategically placed in Step 1.

Ok, so the end float was no where near what it should've been, and there wasplenty of dirt in the carbs. Just curious though, these 44's have a spring loaded air inlet for the idle circuit, is this normal?(I have only dealt with my 40 IDFs) I was looking for one of those little valves all night in the intake port for #1(it fell in as I took the top off the carb, and I didn't know they were spring loaded. I got it out though)
is this a normal setup, or should I be looking for a jet doctor kit? or update kit? or both? I cannot wait to re-install the carbs and see how she runs. May need help with the jetting, but not there yet.
