Hi just tried to crank up the old ghia after it has been setting for awhile, I know not a good idea to let a car set for awhile. I got the car to run but seemed like it was running on 2 cyclinders, then finally it quit running. I went around back and was looking at the engine and noticed the carburator was leaking around the accelerator shaft [not sure if this what its correct name is?] on the right side of the carb. This was late at night and i havent got a chance to take a closer look at it since i work 12hr days, but if it is leaking out the shaft is this repairable? If so what would be involved in the repair of this carb. Friend at work said it might need to be brassened?
I guess it would help if i mention what carb it is, *shakes head* duh its a 34 PICT/3 Carburetor.
Carburator rebuildable or not?

Fuel leaking may mean the float needle valve is not closing.
Engine will flood and stall.
Take top of carb off (5 screws).

Rebuildable ?
Pull the throttle shaft down 1/2 way and push & Pull if there is slop it's time to buy a new carb. They can be repaired but most of the time it's cheaper to get a new one. See -> Solex Carb Throttle Shaft rebushing <> http://www.1800vw.bizhosting.com/qa_carb_rebushing.htm If your carb has the plastic bushings then by all means rebuild it. "Solex carbs are an organized Leak" and a great one at that. Vic.
