Fuel lines

OK, so after my debacle getting fuel line at the F.L.A.P.S. (sold me 6mm, didn't notice until I couldn't figure out why the heck it was so difficult to install on one of my sedans, anyway, it was the smooth type) I figured I would order fuel line from some aircooled shop that would sell me what I thought should be correct 7mm German FI line with braided cloth covering. I ordered from the Bus Depot, and received regular 7mm smooth fuel line. Hmmm, I thought, they did sell me some good Mercedes-type fuel injection hose clamps, but sold me what looks like regular smooth 7mm FI line? So, I took a gander or at the selection at bughaus.com. They have listed 5mm braided line for carbs, and their 7mm braided which they mention is mostly for vent applications. For pressurized applications, they list 7mm smooth line! So, what the heck, what should I use?

Check Kerr auto supply in OKC.....405-232-9581...or V-Dub Folks in Irving TX....972-438-5610....or Bethany imports in OKC...405-232-3071.

The smooth line is probably that which they carry that is pressure rated. I don't like the life of it under the hood in aircooled with oil vapors around. Kerr and bethany almost always have it. Also Foreign parts in Dallas almost always has it. They are a Beck Arnley dealer...214-946-4002. Ray

I've used smooth lining in my volkswagen with no problems. Although I know from personal experience in other cars that generally the smooth lined rubber is cheap and can't handle much stress. The clamps do a beating on them and they have to be replacced a lot more then the braided hoses.

Try Roy Rogers Foreign Car Parts in Little Rock, Ar.501-374-2318 and ask for Charlie. They have a great selection of VW parts and still can get a lot of type 4 stuff.

This hose is actually pretty easy to find. It is alos used on a lot of older BMW's, some WC vw...Volvos and Mercedes. So don't skip those other shops. Ray

There's actually a Roy Rogers in Springfield, MO (around a 1.25 hour drive from here). That is probably the closest shop that has it for sure. I'm hoping maybe to find a shop in Joplin, MO, or maybe Pittsburg or Ft. Scott KS- all about a 40 minute drive from here. Slim pickins' in this part of the country.

The guys at Kerr auto in OKC....are really nifty about shipping also. They have good prices as well. I just called, they are currently out. They have some on order as it is a stock item. Last price was $1.90 per foot. But...they just warned me that almost anything with petroleum in it has been going up. I would expect about $2.25 per foot. Ray
