Going Price Beater Thing

Post by hoodDirty »

I am looking for a Thing, but this is a VW I know little about so would asume there on the rare. I wanna know what a Thing should cost in poorer condition, maybe without motor, top, missing parts, rusty.
Thanks

also any good website on Thing history?

If you're looking for something cheap to restore, be advised that you'd spend FAR less money in the long run buying a solid and complete car up front.

If you do a complete search on Samba, Ebay and the 181 registry you will find a plethora of available Things for sale. YOu can get one for $300 up to $36,000 depending on its condition and level of restorationa nd modification. I suggest that you make a list of what you want to pay and what you want to spend to restore and what you want to end up with. It was suggested in an earlier post that it may be smarter to buy a more restored Thing. Of course that depends on whether you want a primo Thing or you want to build a primo Thing. It is way cheaper to buy another fellows project, But then you take the risk of ending up with other's poor quality work.

Mine was rough, and $2500. 10k later, its nice, but still not done. I like my Thing, so I don't think I would do it any different, except for the $600. completely rebuilt, with all the extra parts needed to install, double throw down super whammie........gas heater...... still in the garage in the box. good luck and have fun.
