1679cc barrels in a 1300cc cash.

Post by Funk Supreme. »

I've been offered some 1679cc barrels and pistons and 1600cc heads for next to nothing. All off a respectable friend.
Problem, I have a 1300cc type 1. Does anybody know if the 1679cc will fit into the 1300cc without any machining work. If anyone knows, it would save me pulling the top end to pieces to find out.

Thanks.

There are three different 1679 (88mm) cylinders.
The "slip-in" ones are the same O.D. on the bottom as stock 13/15/1600 jugs, 90mm.
The "machine-in" on the market today have the same outside dimensions as the 90.5s of yesteryear, 94.4mm
The original "machine-in" 88s were in-between, ~92.5mm IIRC.

If they are slip-ins, they'll fit your case and 1600 heads with no machine work...but I really can't recommend that you use them, they're simply too thin for reliability. Take him up on the heads and get some stock 1600 pistons/cylinders instead.
