Hey All! OK, so here's the situation: "Sunshine," my 1974 412 wagon with L-Jet F/I, has a terrible temper. Her latest thing is as follow: She starts right up when cold and drives fine. When I get to my destination, let's say the store, and I leave her alone for a few minutes (10-15 minutes or so), she gets real prissy. She will start fine, but when I get her up to speed, or high revs, she starts bitching and moaning (hesitating & missing). So I discovered that by putting her in Neutral (while driving - I know, probably not the best thing for the trans), turn her off for about a second, then turn her back on, she runs like new. It acts as though I'm "re-setting" something. Any thoughts? My other 74, VW 412, (Blueberry) with the L-Jet doesn't act like that when I leave HIM alone for a while. Sooooo, besides a psychiatric consultation for myself, any ideas? Should I place her on Estrogen? Perhaps a bit of Midol in her tank?
Hmmm, sounds like maybe some filter somewhere in the fuel system's getting crud clogging when fuel's flowing, then when you deactivate for a few, the crud falls off the filter and lets you run for a while?
I'm not 100% savvy on L-jet, but maybe the AFM flap's getting hung up, and dropping airflow to zero fixes it? That happens on my MGB's SU carbies sometimes, the slide hangs up in the rear carb, dropping to idle usually fixes it.
Midol, that's a hoot!
