I was wondering if anyone knows what the difference in ride would be like using the purple coded front springs off of a '74 verses that stock front springs on a '72. Any idea why VW went to the softer spring on the '74? Would there be any down side in using the the '74 springs on an earlier vehicle?

They are not softer at all. The blue coded springs are technically stiffer...but not by basic compression rate from the starting point. They have a different level of progressiveness. There will be little difference in ride...mostly a little better in rebound rate and dive control. Ray
