Brad,
I agree with you completely. The only additional comment I would make is the he's gone..... AWOL.......poof.....vanished.....
I sincerely sympathize with the situation with your order. http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=103468
If I had been treated by a supplier in OZ the way you have been treated by this US supplier, I'd be real P.O.'d too.
You are not alone out there. It would seem these examples are becoming more prevalent by the day as reported at the various Thing forums.
Your dilemma is that you are half a world away from the source of the REAL PROBLEM. Many of us are close enough...within a day's drive or so, that we could actually go track el hombre down if we really had our minds set on doing so.
You have little recourse other than through your credit card company....if that's what you used for payment.
I think what we're seeing is the death a small business by incompetence......closely allied with a large dose of desperation.
Unfortunately, it's a very public death.
But it's getting to be much, much more than an ordinary case of disregard for customers, non shipment of parts, communicative isolation, and aloofness coupled with uncaring smugness.....
I would appear from reports form various sources, it's getting to be criminal, i.e. actions possibly subject to prosecution.
I imagine the Better Business Bureau and the local Chamber of Commerce in Schenectady would like to know about your experience, and well as everyone else who has been "taken to the cleaners".
To most of us, it is just totally unfathomable how a super niche specialty business just went to hell in a hand basket, in one year.
I'm sure the thought of all this makes Vince sick to his stomach.

All future posts concerning TU or Mike on STF Things will be deleted. This topic is closed... Sorry, but it has become a counterproductive subject. Doc funds this noncommercial site for the sharing of tech info on various air cooled VWs. Time to get STF back to that goal/// Please help me to get meaningful posts that share the technical aspects of the VW Thing...

I disagree with this, although it will no doubt be deleted.Kubelmann wrote:All future posts concerning TU or Mike on STF Things will be deleted. This topic is closed... Prior to giving Mike Brasso my money I read these forums and it was due to a post by Kubelmann telling me to trust Mike and that he was back and all was sorted that I handed over a 4 figure sum in good faith.
Now that same person is saying we should post no more about it, why is this ? So more suckers can be taken for a ride on the back of what use to be a trust worthy business ?
Surely someone out there must have some answers ?
Or if someone lives close enough to Mike Brasso and wants to make a few dollars maybe they can go and pick up my parts for me and ship them over ? If not I will be in the USA next year and will go collect my own parts.

Brad, No way will your post(s) be deleted. I feel very badly that Basso has not delivered your parts. As you all know I stood up for Mike continually. Now it seems that a number of folks have not gotten their parts that thye paid for. That is bad. I also feel badly that folks like Brad have attempted to do business with Basso as a result of my support of him. I was trying to help a friend through a rough time in his life. Now years later, some folks have not received their paid for parts. Is there anyone on this list who lives close enough to Basso to help Brad out? I feel very frustrated with this no win situation... My request to stop this thread was to stop the pointless back biting not to limit folk's ability to get a fair deal for their investment of time and $$..

I know nothing about Things Unlimited, but it is obvious something stinks. I thank everyone that has posted about this saving me the risk of losing my money.
Actually these posts are not offering any products for sale. Protecting the community from unscrupulous vendors, or pointing out good ones has always been allowed everywhere on the Internet forums, (that I know of). You or anyone also has the right to contradict what is said.
The restriction is usually that posters can’t personally benefit, (direct advertisement is not allowed). In my opinion no adds for the hobbyist is a stupid rule, but when people are hypocritical about it is twice as bad. Everyone just gets around it anyway, by saying things like, why won’t this thing sell accompanied by detailed descriptions and that it’s currently for sale on Ebay or some were else. The idea is to keep major vendors out that normally don’t buy advertising from the commercial space that people like Doc depend on to keep these sites up.
I hope Kubelmann has himself decided to honor the noncommercial rules of these forums
It sounds more to me like Kubelmann is using you powers of censorship to promote his bias opinion on the issue. I don’t even understand why he is so concerned about it. The % of posts about this vendor as compared to the whole is minuscule. His motivations are obvious. Then he tries to weasel out of it when Brad calls him on his reply. SAD
Are you going to delete this because I threw a dart @ you?

A few points to make
1. Doc gets no $$ of any kind for STF. He funds this site out of his pocket with no outside support for the good of VW lovers everywhere...
2. I do not mind a few dart being thrown at me.
3. There are no "Rules" about no posting Thing parts for sale commercial or otherwise on the STF Things forum.
4. In fact, I had Doc add a Thing parts for sale forum hoping to drum up more parts for sale for the good of Thing owners everywhere.
5. Doc and I felt the TU/Basso issue was getting pointless. Thus my post was intended as nothing more than a request to get onto more technical and support issues for our VW Things.
6. Most folks are aware that I have a vast storehouse of new and used OE Thing parts. I also have a fairly large supply of other VW parts. I like to buy and sell parts in support of building my VWs.. I have a "day" job that pays for our rice, beans, gasoline and light bulbs..

I am unaware of Kubelmann overt soliciting on these forums. He has been a constant, continuing supporter of the WAY undersupported Thing community. K-man worked hard to keep folks calm over the Mike Basso situation for months in hopes of Mike coming around and making good on commitments. He did about everything he can do to keep Mike Basso a viable part of the community. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. But, not because K-man didn't give it everything he had.
Everybody feels bad for Brad. Brad is in a long line of people who have been screwed by Mike Basso. But, it is neither K-man's responsibility nor STF's responsibility to go beat Mike Basso up or make good on Brad's order. Brad will have to solve his own problem. That's the way it is. Life's hard.
This subject has been covered in spades. There has never been a thought or discussion about deleting the thread. K-man and I have simply been trying to move on to more productive issues. These threads start to collect posts by people who do not know what they are talking about. There are already posts on this thread by people who have never done business with TU and competitors of TU.
Folks, time to move on. If there is something new to post about TU, do so. If you just want to complain, find another place.
