thing/181/trekker trailer hitch

Post by 1961bluebug »

is a trailer hitch for a Thing specific or can I use/ modify some beetle or split bus trailer hitch?

Isn´t a trailer hitch from a late split bus compatible with 181?

I have a ´69 model with reduction boxes in the rear - in fact a plit bus transaxle

Thanks,

Jan

Head over to "the Samba" and see the thread there under "type 181".

A good picture of a true 181 hitch was posted there.

Bucko, You of all people.. I am shocked that you would steer folks from the true family Thing forum... There was a time when this forum was the mainstay of technical Thing information. Doc foots the bill for this forum advert and buck plus bull poop free to ensure we offer tech support and no other ads or other diversion. I inherited this forum and have done a poor job of getting a good flow of posts.... oh well

Sorry about that Kubelman, I meant no harm in pointing to "the other side". I only wanted to help out a fellow thingster.

I don't have my own web site, so I don't know how else to post that picture of the "true hitch" that the 181's used. Our good friend from over the pond had posted a pic of the hitch on the other site, so I referenced it.

I had no idea there was some sort of battle or competition going on between sites. Seems silly to me. It's all about helping and answering questions about our hobby right?

My last post was meant as nothing more than humor. As you will notice I post everywhere that fellow Thing owners ask questions to which I can help. These forums are all about helping each other out with our joint hobby. If we do not share what we have learned it would be nearly impossible to continue to keep our beloved Things alive....
