Anyone have a source for replacement front strut dust boots?

hi, bill , this parts is cn many moder car ,,exa. golf or rabitt ,, ciroco ,, on audi 4000 ,,,this model can fit ,,alb.

This is a strut stop/boot combination that fit audi models (without Bilstien shocks): 4000,4000Q (82-87) and 80/90, 80Q/90Q (88-95). Available at http://www.blauparts.com/Mounts.htm for $17 each.

Will the Audi 4000 strut stop work on the Type 4?

i am not sure for bump stop , but for boots the 400 model is good ,,,for more exact information ,, look on stf in old forum from ray fro the 412 front strut ,,,

The bootpictured above should work fine. The things to remember about bump stops...is that the yare an active part of the calibration level of the system in themore modern cars. You will find late model water cooled bumpstops to be very soft....and very long compared to the travel. They are dsigned to get squashed on a regular basis. The object is that at fullextension...the boot should be about 2" lower than the cap on the strut...so it floats. If you attach it at the bottom...high speed flexing and venting will quickly detsroy it. The bump stop should be tight enough on teh rod so it staye near teh top as much as possible. Ray

Here's what the above mentioned boot looks like on the T4 strut with the insert fully extended. The boot is from KYB and has a firm bump stop built in. The Rabbit bump stop appears to be able to fit on the strut shaft below the T4 bump stop insert (shown mounted without rubber).

The original bump stop is shown in the background. The height of the original is about the same as the stacked height of the original insert and the bump stop portion of the Rabbit boot. The dust boot fits over the t4 strut insert cap and appears to float as Ray described.

Yes, it should work well. The main thing that must be used from the stock bump stop....is the spacer. Newer bump stops...especially very late, are made of much more advanced elsastomers. Do not confuse the size of them with their effectiveness. Make sure the slits at the bottom of teh boot stay up far enough that they are open to air around teh strut rod. They are vents. If you seal the boot....it will pop on a full compression of the strut. Ray
