77 Westy brake question

Post by Elrick »

I've always felt the brakes in my 77 Westy were one of it's best feeatures. Great braeking for well over 10 yrs now. But lately things are not right. She has a tendency when braking to a stop in traffic to pull a bit to thet right and it feels as if the rear brake is doing most of the work. If I press fairly hard, specialy when it's wet and slick the rear wheel will lock up and it pull to the right a bit. Pretty sure the right real wheel is skidding. Haven't had time yet to investigate. What's going on here and what should I look into. I have checked my pads and front disks, they have plenty of life left. Brake fluid is adequate. (second car is 63 Ghia has it's own brake proclivities)

What is your pedal travel like? If you are getting more travel than normal you could have air in the lines to the front or the front circuit of the master cylinder could have failed.
