So I Guess This is my Rejuv Thread..71' 411 Saloon

Post by sharkskinman »

so i had to get a garage for the 411
so they Apt complex wouldnt tow it

But its good because now i have a space to work (10x20)

Replaced the tranny pan seal
and the fluids
4qts ATF (prob need to drain a little)
and almost a qt of hypoid 80w/90

ive never been able to fill either of my autos final drives
to the capacity
always seems like its not enough

filter was clean as a wistle
the hypoid oil looked alittle red
But that could be just 70,XXX mile burnt

hopefully tomorrow i will take the brake proportion valve in the back off
get that clean
and check all the brake cylinders

i happen to have 4 jack stands i think
and the rear is already off the ground
altho i think im puttin gthe jack stands Under the wheels
I dont want the front up too high

i put the tranny thru the gears
and it seems that even with the wheels off the ground
its a little putt putt in reverse...

hopefully get the brakes done or at least working tomorrow
as well as the plugs (if i can find the ones i bought)

Ray?
what were the plugs i bought
they had 4 tips??

more to come....

Let's see some pics. Great score on the garage.
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

They had three tips. They did not have the Bosch W7DTC so you bought the NGK BP6ET tripple electrode nickle coppers.

For the moment...I would not dis assemble to brake proportion valve. (a) You will not find parts to rebuild it. (b) It has at least one 0-ring and a gasket and it runs about 500-600 psi. If it leaks when you get it back together....you will have no brakes.
I would first see if fluid is passing through it by trying to bleed the rear brakes. If it is passing through it....I would leave it. About 85% of all proportioning valves were faulty even 20 years ago. I would say that even mine is probably no longer functioning vene after a rebuild 10 years ago. They are a bit delicate inside and because the main plunger has a nylon component to it they are prone to absorbing moisture , swelling up and not functioning.

I do think a proportioning valve is necessary with the stock drum brakes...and when you get around to it...its simpler to just replace it with an aftermarket adjustable one....$50-100. Ray
