Off Road guy looking for an oppinion on a bus

Post by CentralWAbaja »

Looking for a little help here. I play around over on the off road side of things...Thought I would through this out to you guys.

I am trying to help a friend determine what to ask for this thing. Been in his family 40 years. 60k original miles. Kept in a garage for the last 14 years

I am not a bus guy at all

Any thoughts?

Located north of Seattle,WA

I cut and pasted his email below

Khale says, this van appears to be on it's third owner. It was purchased at the dealer, sold to a flower shop, was painted by the flower shop and then:

* Burkett's purchased it in 1970 with about 40k on it.
* Was partially, but regularly, driven from 1970 to 1993.
* Had engine completely rebuilt in the late 80's.
* Engine has approximately 4,500 miles on it after rebuild.
* Was parked for good in 1995.
* In February 1997, Harry's Mechanical Services accomplished the following:

1. Got engine to run.
2. Replaced battery.
3. Replaced pre-warming hoses.
4. Replaced boot for air filter duct.
5. Replaced vacuum hoses.
6. Changed motor oil and washed screen clean.
7. Changed filter oil and washed screen clean.
8. Replaced pedal rubber (?)
9. Replaced right windshield.
10. Remounted driver mirror.
11. Worked front brakes over:
12. Honed all brake cylinders.
13. Replaced seals and brake shoes.
14. Turned all drums.
15. Replaced ___ brake line on passenger side.
16. Replaced hub seals, greased and adjusted wheel bearings.
17. Replaced brake hoses in front (driver and passenger sides)
18. Greased front suspension.
19. Fixed hood hinge.
20. Fixed driver seat.
21. Installed extension on exhaust pipe.
22. Put boot on rear axle - driver's side.
23. Worked rear brakes over:
24. Honed wheel cylinders.
25. Replaced brake shoes.
26. Turned drums.
27. Overhauled wheel ____?
28. Bled whole system.
29. Test Drive.

* Was never regularly driven after this maintenance.
* Was driven approximately 10 miles on May 17, 1999.
* Was stored that day in a garage.
* Was started a couple times in the distant past, but never driven again.

So there you go. I have about a dozen or so more pictures but I can't make them fit on this email.
If you would like to see more pictures, I'll have to figure out how to make an "album." Don't know how to do that yet!
Any help at all is of great help. Hope to hear from you soon...
Thanks Again,
Todd

I looks to be solid and complete. It's also cool to see a stock Standard version w/o interior panels and trim. Overall it seems to be a pretty cool Bus ! I'd be interested in buying it myself if it wasn't so far away. I'm not going to guessimate its value though. That'd piss off others interested in buying it. Like anything else, its worth what someone is willing to pay.

You don't need another!

As for value, like the others say, it is all what someone is willing to pay. I'd check the classifieds over on the Samba and see what others are asking for similiar, then take 15% off cuz most of those prices are inflated. The nice thing about the internet is regional needs no longer are that critical cuz for the right item, someone will travel or ship it. As clean as that is, I think its value is pretty decent.

yeah samba prices, esp on splists and bays now, are pretty jacked, but they show the spread.

however, if its original and original paint and original yadda yadda, there are some nuts otu there that will pay wayy too much and keep em unoaffordable for me.
give a man a watch and he'll allways know what time it is. give him two and he can never be sure again.

Things are rarely just crazy enough to work, but they're frequently just crazy enough to fail hilariously.
