oil light not working

could anyone tel me why my oil light won't light up when connected to the oil switch terminal on the block yet when i test it for connectivity when not connected it lights up..

Pull the wire off the sender.
Ground it to the block.
If the bulb lights up, the sender is bad.

thanks.confirmed...sender is bad.so i guess i will just unscrew it and replace it with the sender from the old block...assuming its ok to do so
