Removing foam behind Window

Post by DWP »

Any ideas of how to remove the foam the factory put in under and behind the rear windows.
We need to patch an area just under the moon vent on my son's project. We cut the rusted area out, tried every king of scraper, bent screw driver ect.
I would like to get as much of the foam out before we weld.

Will carb cleaner melt the foam?
Just spray liberally!

A heat gun maybe your friend.
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

A coat hanger straightened with a 1/4 inch bend, ground sharp at the end, chucked in an electric drill.
accessed from the engine compartment will chop the foam up (careful, don't get it caught between inner metal going fast or it can put small pin dents in the sheetmetal)
Use a shop vac to suck out the pieces. finish with a long strip of thick sheet metal 2inches wide sharpened like a jagged saw to cut the rest away from the body. Use caution around the wire harness also.
It takes a while to get most of it , I have half filled a garbage can from one car!

hey guys, ino this was from a long long time ago, but im dwp's son, and i used some electrical cable that has the three wires in it. i used a drill with it, and left about 1" of the wire exposed so it would spread out, almost like a heavy duty wire brush. so i got all the foam out, this is right behind the crescent moon shaped vent, (74 bug), under the body seam, now there is still some foam above that seam, how do i get to that?

thanks alot tom
