I am just about to start a resto on my 68 Notchback. It is currently manual with swingarm.
I have just obtained a IRS rolling floopan. I want to install a type 3 autobox that I have on the IRS floorpan and then change the body onto this rebuilt IRS floor pan.
What supports the auto box?
Do I need to fabricate horns and bracket and have them welded on to support the auto box or how should I go about it?
Will I also need to change the engine mounts?
Any advise or assistnace would be greatly appreciated.
The swingaxle body lacks provision for the rear mounts & cross-bracket needed to support an IRS powertrain - look at a `69-`73 body and you'll appreciate how major an operation it would be to add that.
If it were a 4-speed you could bolt in a swingaxle rear chassis subframe with IRS pivot points added, but the auto trans won't fit between stock framehorns so you're in for some serious fabrication. I'm sure it's been done, hopefully someone here can point you in the right direction...just how much did you have your heart set on the automatic?
