Hello , i am new owner of a 1973 412 wagon. I just want to know what size is the engine? Some people told me that is a 1700 and the previous owner told me that is a 1800cc.The engine is fuel injection.
I have a other question, my engine , when cold have rought idle and hard to have a good speed up, but hot, run great?
Thank you and i am sorry for my english, i use to speak french on a dayli base...

My 412 engine
Greetings! It is probably a 1700 engine, however it is possible the previous owner replaced it with the larger 1800cc motor. One way to tell is to look at the engine number stamped on the back of the motor. If it begins with "EC", then it is an 1800. Of course there is always the possibility that he/she had the heads ground to 1800 and put larger pistons in it. The only way to tell this is to disassemble the engine and measure. SMILES! Dale (and your English is fine)

There were both 1700 and 1800 engines in the 412. It would be late 73 to get an 1800. A very few 1800 still had D-jet. Most got L-jet injection. The block # is not a perfect way to tell the size. Take off the valve cover and look at the part # of the heads. I don't remember right off which # is which, but that will tell you. If it is L-jetr injection...it is 1800 for sure...unless of course things have been changed around.
You either have a couple of small vacume leaks or you have a basic fuel mixture problem. Check every hose and gasket...even ones you think could not be the problem. Check your fuel pressure while running. If the guage fluctuates too much (over 1-2 psi) when revving....or if it drops to zero immediately...the regulator could be suspect. Check your auxiliary air regulator. It could be sticking some when cold. Also check and clean the FI trigger points under the distributor (if you have D-jet injection)...when these get oily...they get poor connections when cold. This will get you started. Ray
