What later model column switches work? (turn signal, wiper)

Post by Piledriver »

Was considering scrounging a later model Golf etc mostly for the integrated cruise stalk, but I have an 944 intermittent wiper relay sitting on my desk that needs a home as well.
(I suppose the cruise stalk might be made to fit the existing TS switch)

What later model column switch assys are physically compatible?

Also, what is the bit called that goes under the column, also sorta keeps the connectors in place?
Mines MIA, not sure what name or part# to search for.

I have a 73.

The Mk1 Golf switch setup APPEARS to look about right, but I really don't want to rip the Cabby apart.

Edit: I have managed to teach myself how to type "swicth" incorrectly 100% of the time.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

The 924 had more VW parts in it than the 914 I was told once. A lot of stuff with early rabbits was the same as bugs too.

I have an complete VDO cruise setup with the baby vacuum pump etc I've been considering grafting into by squareback.
Adding a later model column stalk switch setup would be ideal, but I need to "do" a center console under the AC anyway so it's not really a showstopper.

The late T1//T3 TS switch etc bits look a LOT like Mk1 Golf bits design wise, 924 ~ interchangeable with Mk1 IIRC..

The cool Mk2 (85-92) Golf kids would upgrade to Mk3 (93-98) stuff, and while I think the Mk1/2 stuff interchanges, it's been too long to say for sure. The late Cabrios and Sciroccos were still Mk1s, but got updated bits added in the late 80s+ so might be a chance to find a set there that would work? Lots of help, I know... heh.

When I dug in the column today to replace a gimpy ignition switch, I discovered that the existing wiper switch I have had provisions for the washer valve AND electrical contacts for a washer pump.

Also found the TS side had the intermittent wiper position (only had to break of the limiter tab on the outer cover)

The washer contact went to a wire that had been dyked off close by a PO
Yanked washer valve...
I had previously installed a 12v washer pump and separate push on switch, all wired up to the wiper switch and works as designed now.

Now I just need the TS side setup for cruise control...

Elaborate please. Does it have a "99" mark, or P/N 357 955 531 or 1HM 955 531B?

You must realize "on my desk" is a deep, dark, three dimensional space, stored in chronological order...
(...time passes...)

477 9(5or6)4 531 has a "9N20" stamped in paint on the end.

S
The terminal#s and diagram translated to a int. wiper relay, scavenged from a dead 944 that also gave up its brakes, rear axles, steering rack and entire suspension save the rabbit front arms for (IIRC) $100 at U-Pull it.

Didn't have cruise.
