Enigne Tins
Do you guys still run the deflectors that go on the underside of the head?(I know they came on a T1 but not sure about T3?)?

Yes.
That air dam makes the air go sideways through the fins on the underside of the head.
Simple enough to make if they are missing.

Volkswagen's engineers didn't put a lot of parts on the engine that weren't needed - you'll get better cooling (and a longer engine life) if you have ALL the tine, and ALL the gaskets.

My experience is the engine life will shorten down to mere minutes without those tins in particular
