Gas Gauge Woes

Post by Jim K »

Please advise: The subject is a '74 Westy. When full, the gas gauge registers correctly, but soon afterwards it falls to empty even when one-half to three-quarters full. My instinct is that it isn't the gauge itself but the sending unit. Anybody know how these gizmos work? How would you approach the problem? Many thanks.

Jim the news is bad - it's almost certainly the sender going bad and you need to remove the engine to acess it . I've seen many (too many!) typ II's where they rolled up the carpet and used a hole saw to open an acess hole , it's a nasty way to go but doable . thatnk god no one did this to my '68 #211 .
