Can anyone help me fill in the dimensions on this drawing? I'm drawing a front suspension up in solidworks and want to get the right sizes.

Re: link pin trailing arm dimensions
I don't have any around here to measure, but you should know that there are two different diameters for the tubular part that plugs into the beam. Early and late arms are the same length, even though there are two different shim charts - the dust seal is equal in thickness to two shims, which accounts for the difference...the arms are the same length. Late arms (with the larger diameter) can be identified by the notch on the outer face, put there to index the dust seal.

I have a loose beam in the parts pile, how far along are you, and any interest in modeling some aftermarket over sized arms?

Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

I've got rough models going, but nothing detailed. Since you have a beam handy, could you measure the upper shock locations for me? Distances from the center of the Fortson tube to the center of the bolt hole should be great. Modeling oversized arms would be fun too. Could you provide dimensions?

I would say the shock bolt is 8 3/4” and 13” away. The over sized arms are off the shelf aftermarket, not very exotic.

Apparently I don't own working calipers anymore, it is rough, but plenty accurate for virtual. Stub 38.7mm to flat, tube 36.7, 5.87” length, 172mm depth to flat, M10, 34mm link, 100mm depth.

Not relevant to the control arms but it seemed like this is a good a place as any to mention some other distinctions between early & late beams.
10mm-thread upper shock bolt (111 413 401A) was last used on chassis #4846835, late in `62 model year. Beams produced after mid-June `62 use the 111 413 403A bolt that's 12mm over its full length.

Until `53 there were only 5 torsion leaves in each stack. They increased the height of the shock towers to increase travel by 30mm, switched from 5.00x16 to 5.60x15 tires, and went to six leaves through 1959.
Some time in Aug `53 (beam # 531623) the mounting angle of the lower tube anchor point was changed. Measured from the horizontal, early was 45° upper/49° lower; late was 45°/55°.
Several changes were made in `59. The angles were changed to 49°/51½°, leaf count was upped again to eight, and a front stabilizer bar was added.
In early 1960 (from VIN 2921552) the micarta outer control arm bushings were replaced with needle bearings and the control arms were modified to receive the linkpin dust seals - a different shim chart applies when rebuilding the "new" K&Ls. Zerks were fitted from VIN 3338658.
In October of 1961 the Porsche-designed worm-and-nut steering box was replaced by a Gemmer-design hourglass worm-and-roller and the zerks were eliminated from the tierod ends.

Re: link pin trailing arm dimensions
Did anyone ever get the dimensions for the upper and lower trailing arms? Im looking for them for my 63' type . TIA
