CSP & DTM type 4 crankshaft pulleys?

Post by VIPERGREEN76 »

Is the offset between the 2 pulleys same? I can't find photos of both sides of each pulley or info.

I do like the CSP parts but you can't go wrong with the parts from the Type4Store. A big issue with the cost of CSP parts is absorbing some of the cost of importing the parts into the States. However, the Germans have been installing T4s into Beetles, et al, for many years and the parts are going to work.

As to the offset of the relative pulleys. Both set ups are made to work with the other parts available from the same companies, however, if they do have different offsets, it cannot possibly be a significant amount, as there is only so much room at the end of the crank to mount those pulleys. I would imagine the parts could interchange and work fine, however, that's just a guess.

In the info of the T4S web site, in reference to the alt stand(which is significant because it determines the location of the alternator, which determines the location of the alt pulley, which effects the belt alignment), it says it was designed to work with their parts and would require significant alteration to use with other systems, however, talking to someone who HAS mixed parts, it was said the alterations required a file, not machine work. This is second hand info, so take it for what it's worth.

I have the CSP one. No issues with alignment when I switched it in for a generic plain billet one. Fit perfect and I appreciated the degree markings.

I have both and it appears there is about 10mm difference between the two parts between the fan belt centre lines! have attached pics for reference.

Thank you, for posting the photo. The offset of the pulley is important, if someone is going to use the type 1 36hp style fan shroud.

Flip the pulley, it will be like an original OEM Pulley . Have mine over 20 years and works fine..

Just get the alt and the crank pulley lined up perfect. I used two rods placed in the grooves to check alignment.

I'll keep the 2 rods placed in the grooves idea in mind.
Thanks
